Winter

A few days ago London had a lot of freezing rain. It coated all the trees and plants in a think layer of ice. Branches and pine nedles looked like they were trapped in glass.

Walking home after work the wind blew through the trees causing tiny tinkles of breaking ice. Then the sun hit at just the right angle causing millions of tiny brilliant refractions.

Every step on the grass crunched as the ice encased blades broke off underfoot.

At home the underside of the patio trellis played host to thousands upon thousands of identical mini icicles.

Winter is here. At last.
