Day 3 - Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove

Okay, Day three we rented a car and went for a drive. We needed to stop at a mall so MusicGirl could try on a dress for her sister's wedding. After that we were on our way!

Lunenburg is 89Km from Halifax and it took us less than an hour to drive there on the Highway. Because we were there in April and not the prime tourist season a lot of things were closed. We went down to the docks and there is a little aquarium there. We watched the fish swim around for a while and decided we were hungry. We had lunch at Magnolia's Cafe - Gingered carrot soup for MG, Tomato cheddar for me. Fish cakes for both of us and key lime pie for dessert. Yum! After we walked around town poking into chichi shops and galleries until we got bored. Which was pretty quick because all the chichi shops had the same stuff and the galleries are too expensive.

We got back in the car and started to drive along the coast to Peggy's Cove. We took a few detours, stopping where ever we felt like, poking in the water, taking pictures, gathering shells, fun stuff. We stopped in Mahone Bay at a yarn store and the Pewter store. There we got a demonstration of how they cast pewter objects. We stopped on three different beaches, one quite sheltered, one where we braved the cold and stuck our feet in the Atlantic and one where the waves and wind were fierce.

We made it to Peggy's cove about 7 and headed out to the big lighthouse. Man that place is desolate. Why would anyone want to live there? Giant rocks, water and a giftshop. Whee! The view, on the other hand was overwhelming. The fog had come in and the sun was gone. The wind was whipping making the waves really huge. We stayed and just stared at the ocean until we were frozen and about to blow over.

Since the fog had come in the drive back to Halifax was kind of creepy but we made it and stopped at the grocery store to pick up dinner. At the hostel there was a group of guys having a pissing contest over who was better traveled. We decided to go out again for some more beer and music. The Music was provided by The Gig Dogs and was really good.

Tomorrow - Day 4 and going home. Stay tuned!
